On her birthday this year my friend Monica asked me to build her a website where she could upload whatever she made that day. That was my birthday present to her. She planned to upload one post every single day for a year…

Well, today is my 27th birthday and I’m stating publicly that I plan to write here in this blog/journal/diary at least once every day for the next year. I will fail. I can practically guarantee it. But you know what? That’s okay.

When you set these outrageous, unreachable goals, even if you fall totally short, you’ll still accomplish a hell of a lot more than you would if you never set any kind of goal in the first place.

The above is probably the most important thing I’ve learned over the last two years.

Most of the projects, big or small, that I’ve started over the last two years have fallen short. But you know what? With just the act of starting them and trying, I’ve made more music, artwork and participated in more collaborations that I’m proud of than ever before.

So cheers to another unreachable goal that will hopefully produce some good conversations, a place for some much needed venting, some education, and some fun… even if I fall drastically short of 365 posts by my 28th birthday.

you know, it takes a lot of determination to even begin something as major as this.
so i commend you for it, even if this time next year you’ve posted fewer than a dozen updates.
happy 27th, alan (:

Now if only I could get your posts to import into Google Reader correctly…

and yes. I still have my goals for my website… I just can’t possibly do them right now. :-/ Thanks for the shoutout, even if it was kind of pointed, lol. :-)

Happy Birthday!

Exciting! I could never blog every day. I would go crazy. xD

That said, though, you develop a routine and it starts to get easier. So good luck Alan! I’ll be following you.

Good luck, Alan! You never know what you are capable of. I decided to try and take a photo every day for a year once. And then I actually did it. And am still taking a picture a day, 508 days later. You can do it!!

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 27 has been a pretty good age for me so far. Hope it’s the same for you!

Just promise that once you realize that you’re not going to be able to post every day sometime mid-July or something that you still post as frequently as possible.

As in, just because you don’t accomplish the original goal doesn’t mean you can’t adjust it. Just once a week. A month. Check in with us. :)

You forgot about your Harry Potter summaries. I think you owe Mrs. G Hoover a response rap.

Looking forward to it!
I did blog every day for (almost) a year. I missed 3 days when I was on a school trip. The other times I would be away I pre-wrote blogs that would be posted automatically.

I would now find it impossible to do so though so good luck! :)

Alan, I love this idea. I also love the sentiment that even if you are setting up yourself to not accomplish a goal *perfectly*, it’s still worth putting your goal out into the world and having at it.
Look forward to reading your posts every day!
