In September 2006 I stumbled upon YouTube after filming and editing my first short film, “She Handed Me Her Diary”. I registered and started poking around. At the time, I was working on a few documentaries exploring traditional printing methods like offset printing and letterpress printing. My offset printing video was featured by the YouTube editors and attracted a lot of views and new subscribers.
A few months later my second short film, “Five Stories”, aired numerous times nationwide on IFC, the Independent Film Channel.
The more content I uploaded to YouTube, the more I began to realize there was this whole community of vloggers and video makers supporting each other and collaborating on these wonderfully creative videos. I began interacting and collaborating with them.
In the following months and years I was featured on the front page by the YouTube editorial staff numerous times. I collaborated with some of YouTube, TV and Hollywood’s biggest stars, from Michael Buckley to MadTV’s Lisa Donovan to film star Kevin Pollak.
As of April 2010 my first YouTube channel, fallofautumndistro, has over 35,000 subscribers and over 5.5 million video views. That same month I began a secondary channel called alanvlogs.
On April 3rd, 2010, I started participating in a project called VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April). For this project, I started a new channel called alanvlogs, where I could upload unscripted vlogs (video blogs). The channel gained over 1,200 subscribers and over 20,000 views in the first two weeks.
The channel will continue after April to become my new home on YouTube for discussion or opinion-oriented videos. You’ll find an RSS feed of my latest vlogs at the top of this page.
