Making “The Fort” Linocut Edition

May 10, 2021

I wrote and published “The Fort” last year, but didn’t make a limited print edition until recently. I wanted to do something fun for the cover, so I decided to make my first linocut print, and then layer it with vellum paper for the title.

The first printing is 5.5″x7.5″, 24 pages, saddle stitched (like most zines), and limited to only 25 handmade prints with red ink. Future printings will feature different ink color covers to differentiate them.

The two videos included here show a behind the scenes look at the printing, cutting, and assembly process for the Limited Linocut Edition. The first printing has already sold out, but a second printing, in forest green ink, is currently available.

I’m very proud of “The Fort”. It was my first published short story, was awarded an honorbale mention in the Writer’s Digest 89th Annual Writing Competition, and has been called “lovely and horrifying” by Jeremy Robert Johnson, author of Entropy in Bloom and The Loop. This Limited Linocut Edition was a lot of fun to work on and I couldn’t be happier with the final product.
