I’m excited to announce that the film rights to my short story, “The Fort“, have been optioned by Umbrella Pictures.

While news of rights being optioned is always exciting, it rarely guarantees a film will actually be shot. An “option” is like a lease. It gives Umbrella Pictures an 18-month window to make the short film, and if they don’t, the rights revert back to me.
But I believe so strongly in this story that I only licensed partial rights to Umbrella Pictures. I retained a good chunk of the rights to ensure this project does move forward, and moves in a direction that stays true to the source material (you should all know by this point that I’m a bit of a control freak).
That said, my small press, Shortwave Media, will be co-producing the film.
I already wrote a screenplay adaptation with screenwriter Catherine Clark.
We already have horror director Cameron Gallagher attached (check out his award-winning short film, “The Rickety Man”, available to stream for free here).
And filming is currently scheduled to begin in spring 2023!
I’m beyond thrilled to begin this adventure with the team Umbrella Pictures and I have begun assembling.
Umbrella Pictures is owned by Rob Jarosinski and is currently producing the queer horror road trip anthology film, Hauntology, with production company Rainbow Swan.
